"Now, let's see here..."
Said the wavemaster in the purple cape and top hat out loud to himself.
Is it alright to talk to yourself in a video game? There are already penalties for it in real life, after all.
To begin with, the sentence 'now let's see here,' usually means someone's thinking about something, right? Was this particularly short wavemaster in a long top hat thinking about something?
The answer is yes. Yes he was.
He was thinking about what kind of things people do in The World.
Or rather, what makes The World so appealing. What was the market draw?
And is there a better way to find out these things than a walk-around survey?
If there is, we're about to find out now. XD
"Hello there," he said to a cool looking long arm, "Say, have you played The World for a long time?"

He was just about to begin to leave, but he was stopped by what looked like the top of a hat. His eyes moved down until he spotted what the hat was on top of, a small boy. Based on the boy’s build, Amatsu figured that the boy was a Wavemaster, the magic using class. The purple long arm raised his eyebrow some. What does this person want? Amatsu thought to himself. Just as he was about to ask what the boy wanted, he was surprised with a question. Had he played the World for very long? No, not at all actually.
Well… No, I’m new to the World. I had friends who played, and I was hoping to reconnect with them or something. So, I’m new. Amatsu said to the Wavemaster. Why do you ask? My name’s Amatsu, by the way. The long arm followed with before letting his eyes scan the room again. What all was there to this world? I hope this World is more fun than the real one. He thought to himself before turning his attention back to the boy.
Did you want to level together or something? I’m ok with that.

"Ah, I see..." Said the wavemaster with a knowledgably nod of his head. Ah ha! So his data collection scheme was geting somewhere!
Was it really a scheme? Usually that means the end result is something bad...
So it couldn't be a scheme, because the wavemaster had no plans to hurt anyone. What he asked was what he asked: Have you played The World for long? It was a question to which the answer had been provided.
"Oh, that's good. I've played The World a little before, but I had to quit because of IRL stuff."
"IRL" was vernacular that people used in these kinds of games, right? He didn't want to sound like some creepy old man...
"So I'm trying it out again. I gotta start all the way back at level 1, though...
To answer your question, I'm actually trying to help out a friend start his own MMO game, and I decided to use The World for my research."
Was it okay to just readily give out information like that? You don't really know who this long arm is, y'know.
Do you want to level together or something? was another question that the long arm asked him.
"Uhhhh...sure. Yeah, that'd be great!"
It was a little unexpected. Was everyone that friendly in The World? The wavemaster couldn't really remember, since it had been so long since he last played. Was it because people could be people they couldn't be in real life?
Well, questing and leveling up together was part of The World experience. And he wanted to know more about why games like The World were so attractive. So, we've moved on to the hands-on portion or the research, it seems!
"I'm Gallifrey, by they way," Gallifrey said.

"....Haah. So...all that's done. Now I just gotta turn the damn thing on, ne?" A voice groaned. The owner of this voice leaned back in their chair and stared at the screen of their computer for a good couple of minutes before actually making any particular move to turn it on. "...Honestly...That's a hell of a lot of tweaking to do for just one game...This better be fuck'n worth it..."
After a brief lazy spin of their chair finally they'd turn their computer on and watch it come to life. Soon after they'd start up the The World's program to see the desktop come up. It was impressive to say the least...they had never seen such intricacy for an MMO before. When the user moved to put on the visor that game with the game they smiled awkwardly to themselves.
" Sheesh...Is that excitement running through my veins?...I guess I'll get started..."
[Gate In.]
A crimson upside down 'U' symbol would be interrupted by the opening of a pair of scarlet and amber colored eyes. These eyes would widen in surprise as the wind seemed to blow against their face and cause their crystalline silver strands to wildly blow in front of their vision. Once the wind had calmed down the sight of Mac Anu would greet them in it's fullest allowing the 'newborn' citizen of The World to take in all of it's glory all at once. This very 'newborn' of sorts being a 5'7 beauty dressed not unlike that of an RPG worthy Ancient Samurai Archer...
"Whoah...", she spoke softly as she took in the various aspects of mixing futuristic architectural elegance with old world fantasy. Since she had already had her point of view fixed on first person it was as if she were actually there from the start...it was just luck that the menus and such were present to remind her that it was just a game. Though her mind insisted that it was more than such...this was her escape. This was the new world she'd be exploring for the rest of the day and future work-less afternoons. The life and physical form that she'd substitute for her own when she needed a break.
The thought alone was enough to draw a smile to her lips which even further caused her to go about controlling her character. Amused with the entire idea she lifted her virtual hand and looked it over casually," Well...I guess now it's time to get a feel for the controls...", she mumbled softly before moving forward. It was decided that she'd learn the controls of her character by experimenting. She'd walk around and see about interacting with some of the starting NPCs...as it seemed there were various menu side directions that told her about the first couple she needed to speak with.
"Heheh...Guess it's time to give this adventure a good start, eh?"

Though something expected, the male let out a deep exasperated sigh, his face bearing that of annoyance to a certain extent. Though he knew it was going to be this way, it never ceased to bother him seeing how packed the Delta server was. And though he was never really bothered about it in the past, these past few years made him rather dislike staying among big crowds such as what was found in the city. He felt like he was suffocating, the male immediately needing to get out of the streets, and back towards where the Chaos Gate lied in wait. He still had yet to see the whole city, but exploration of the whole place would have to be at another time.
Back at where the blue gate with a golden frame was, the black-clothed swordsman stared at it for a few moments, reviewing the area words he could possibly use for a suitable place for him to start out in. The black hues of his scanned the words quickly, his mind pondering on what good combination would also present him with a place void of other players. Still, the thought of actually partying with someone crossed him mind, though at present, the male knew no one to actually call and accompany him.

Luckily, the boy said that he would, in fact, like to go level together. From everything he had read, grouping when you first start out is the best way to do anything. Well here you go, you’ll need this. Amatsu said to his new “friend”, Gallifrey, as he gave the other person his Member Address. After you add me, we can go off and… kill stuff, I guess. The long arm said with a slight laugh. He wasn’t one for long, interesting conversation. It’s not that he didn’t enjoy them, more like he wasn’t good at them. Maybe the World could help him with that. No idea how, but who knows.
While you’re doing that, I guess I’ll sift through the keywords and find somewhere good. Amatsu stated to Gallifrey before he turned and headed back to the Chaos Gate. Hm… Submissive Black Two Wings… sounds pretty cool to me. Amatsu said to himself slightly before turning back to Gallifrey. You want to bring anyone else along? I’m pretty confident we could take it, but the more the merrier they say. He added before realizing that there was another person at the Chaos Gate with him. He would ask if the dark clothed male wanted to come with them, but that’d be rude to Gallifrey. And probably would make him seem… rather creepy.

'So...controls figured out to a degree...It's not all that different from most MMO as far as the menu stuff goes. It's just the movement controls that are intricate...' She thought to herself while walking among the crowd of other players and NPCs that seemed to fill the town like an actual City.
Her crimson orbs scanned each passing person with curiosity growing further and further to the point where she began to wonder just how many people played this game. As far as she could see there were thousands of people online just at this very moment...so many of which looked so different from each other that she had to wonder if there really were so few classes to categorize each into their correct nature. It was actually kind of intimidating--and made her wonder just what actual live combat looked like in a world like this.
"Man...to think I came here to try out the PvP first...Heh...something tells me I'm better of waiting until I can make some friends somewhere." she'd mumble to herself before coming upon the site of a particularly densely populated area. There she'd see the golden Chaos Gate and various people using it to reach different fields and meet with party members. Remembering the means to catch party members she'd go about using the silent method by putting up a flag for wanting a party--mostly to see if anyone was looking at the list of people whom were looking to party. Following that she'd go with the vocal method to test just how friendly the community was.
"OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOI~~!!" She'd call out without restraint. Upon doing so several players paused and looked in her direction with a confused look--obviously caught off guard by the loud call for attention. Naturally this only egged her on to see just whom would step forward," Look'n for a party over here! I'm brand new and looking for some adventure, ne? So who wants to show me around?" she'd ask with a grin--easily keeping her voice loud enough to carry over the loud chatter of several hundreds of players that gathered around the chaos gate.
Needless to say it was obvious there wasn't a shy bone in her body...and most people that noticed that were either surprised or...hesitant to join. She of course didn't let that stop her...she'd keep her broadcasting going until she was finally noticed---without even the slightest sense of discouragement from getting an instant reply. After all she imagined after playing many an MMO she had to keep going to make some of these players buck up and give her a shot. Not to mention if this community was known for being shitty surely someone of intelligence and kinder nature would be the one to give her a warning.
That...was when everything suddenly went quiet. She paused and looked around with her hands on her hips---she of course looked confused because most of the people around her went quiet and stared at her like she grew a second head. "Eh? What's the problem?" She'd question out loud," You guys ain't seen a girl ask for a party or something? Anyone wanna go? Eh?"
Granted most of those that had gone quiet didn't look interesting enough for her to really want to tag along with. The higher leveled players didn't really make much note of her really they either left or reacted much like the newer players surrounding her. Apparently they were surprised that some random noob had the guts to cry out for a party like it was the natural thing to do---or rather maybe they were more surprised at the fact that she may as well have sounded like one of those suicidal players that go to crazy places due to the sheer ballsy manner of speech she gave out.
Whatever the case she generally ignored the stares either perfectly oblivious to them after questioning why they were staring or too absorbed in the idea of finding a party mate that'd show her around...

[Log In - Welcome to The World]
As the black clad man logged into The World, he let out a sigh. Business had been slow lately, and he felt like he was beginning to get rusty. Ever since the switch to R:4, PKing seemed to die down some, probably due to the influx of new members and the sudden activity of Customer Support. They never truly forbid PKing, but players who complained to CC Corp recently seemed to actually get an answer. It'd probably die down after the whole shock of 'new version of The World!', but for now he had to find some way to keep himself entertained.
And as he left the initial area around the Chaos Gate, he found it. A new player was looking for someone to show them the ropes. It wasn't the best use of time, but he truly had nothing better to do right now. This girl could make a fun way to kill time.
"Excuse me, I couldn't help but hear your request, lol. I've just logged into The World for the first time in a while, but I can show you how to play, lol. So, what do you say, lol," he asked from behind his black hooded, white-masked face, a black clothed and armored hand reaching out from inside the cloak for a handshake.
"Oh, don't mind the appearance, lol. My friend dared me to make a really creepy character and picked the name, so this is what I ended up as, lol."

The crystalline haired blade master turned her attention toward the supposedly new player casually. Her crimson sights scanned over him carefully and a light shrug of her shoulders came soon after. Even though he looked a little more than just creepy and the affect of him generally laughing after every sentence made him appear quite suspicious for some reason she imagined it wasn't a good idea to just judge him right on the spot. Especially when he seemed so willing to show her a thing or two about the game despite being relatively new himself.
"Okay! Cool~. Where are we going?", she'd ask with a grin. Her stance relaxed now that she had found a party-mate---though she halfway wondered if they needed to get more than one mate for this excursion into the fields.
"Wanna see if we can get a few more party members to join us before we go out? We'll probably find someone else who's also been out and about if we wait.", She'd look around as she spoke.
It seemed upon her finding someone to talk to in a more...less obnoxious decibel of tone everyone resumed what they were doing.

Wow. Making friends in The World was really, really easy.
Of course, he wasn't that naiive, but it was nice to know you could gain allies very quickly in the virtual world. What a friendly place, eh? Now, if only it was this easy in the real world.
Not that he had trouble making friends or anything like that, IRL. Not that the previous statement was a boast.
Well...we can get more to that later. Perhaps when I can form more coherent sentences. XD
"Oh, right! I guess you need my Member Address too," said the Wavemaster named Gallifrey.
With a click of an icon, some internet magical mumbo-jumbo la la de de~ Annnnnnnnnnnnd done! Member's Address sent!
"Looks like I just got yours," the magician in purple said, "once you've gotten mine we can get going. Yeah, that field sounds fine!"
It sounded hard, actually. Submissive Black Two Wings. Was that still in the Delta Server? It had been a long time since Gaillifrey played, so maybe it was a new one.
I keep mentioning "long time" "long time." Maybe Gallifrey is a creepy old man who plays these games in the darkness to find innocent youths and do terrible things to them.
It probably won't end up like that, but wouldn't that be a good twist?
"Well, this is my first time logging on, actually, so I don't really know anyone else..." he said, rubbing the back of his head and grinning cheezily, "but if you can think of anyone you want to invite, go right ahead! The more the merrier, right?"
He thought he heard someone asking to party up a little while ago on the chat box, but the message was completely drowned out by the rest of the chatter. Mac Anu sure was a busy city.
"Basically, I'm good with whatever you want to do," said Gallifrey confidently. Oi, should you be following a total stranger around so blindly, little Wavemaster?
But then, his logical mind said, what could the real consequences be? Death in a game didn't equate to real death, right? This wasn't some blockbuster sci-fi movie.
So the young Wavemaster named Gallifrey would blindly follow his new Long Arm compatriot.

"It'd probably be better if it was just us, since three people would just make teaching more chaotic, lol," Assassin replied, sending his member address to the girl so they could form a party. He was thinking of a good field to go to for this, which he was thinking something around level eight. It was a good level to use the excuse of 'power leveling while learning' for, and it'd also work as a place where she could easily be killed by the Monsters present. He was a bit bored with just killing them himself this time, so he'd try a more 'indirect' approach to PKing her.
"Send me your member address as well and I'll make a party for us, lol," he continued, beginning to think of what type of field he'd warp them into. He had a level, now he just needed some other traits to go for, and a bit of musing would tell him what.

"Oh? Eh...Okay..." She softly shrugged her shoulders and went about sending her member address to him. Afterward she lifted her head toward the rather creepy looking avatar in front of her," By the way my name is Sanyu. What's your's?" While waiting for his member address she asked this. Her mind however was going over the controls in her head once again. This alone however wouldn't be too hard to note from her since she was basically physically performing actions that would suggest she might have been trying to nail the controls down into her second nature.
She lifted her right hand and swung it as if with a weapon--not really bothering to draw her weapon since there was no need to do anything like that. Plus she imagined even doing that much was frowned upon in a safe zone.
When she felt like she was ready she turned her attention to the other player once more--shifting excitedly. It was obvious that she couldn't wait to give the combat aspect of this game a shot. If anything that was always the only reason she played games like this...The adventure, and the act of fighting monsters--the sense of accomplishment that followed. She admitted it was a tomboyish kind of thing to enjoy but that didn't make her love the idea any less. Really that only underlined the fact that it was something she enjoyed.
"Oh hey...You'll tell me what items we get from this map are good for selling right?", she'd ask with a grin once the thought came along. She had to remember she had absolutely no gold on her what-so-ever and thus only had default weaponry and armor despite how her avatar looked. The way this game worked was odd in that sense. You could look however you wanted--but your armor was still something you had to constantly replace and restore.

"Well my character's name happens to be Assassin....but, you may call me Sasaki, lol," Assassin responded to her question as he received her member address, going ahead and sending her the invitation to the party. He already had a plan in his head about how this little player's death would go down, and so all he needed to do now was find a field to make it happen in. He began musing about it as he turned to make his way back towards the chaos gate, but then the girl's question caught his ear.
"Ah, of course I will, lol. It's important to know what treasures are good to sell in The World, lol," he answered as he gestured with the black-clad hand for her to follow before it snuck back into his cloak, beginning to weave through the crowd back to the chaos gate. It didn't take long to get there, since they weren't too far out, and he approached the Chaos Gate to begin entering the keywords for the field.
"Let's see.....Ignorant.....Maiden's.....Fortune, lol. Those three should make for a good field, lol," Assassin thought aloud as he sifted through words, the golden rings enveloping his character as they transported both him and the girl out of Mac Anu, and into the newly found field, who's keywords were specifically chosen as a bit of playful foreshadowing on Assassin's part.

"Nice to meet you, Sasaki~. Thanks a lot for taking me along."
Naturally the sound of those keywords kind of caused a level of apprehension in the new player. Sanyu naturally took a lot of things into mental account when things that felt like foreshadowing came about. Examples such as a day ending too well, or out of place feelings when saying certain things. She even at times noticed how it felt like people were saying 'good bye' when they were saying nice things to them...Of course she was also quite superstitious and knew half the time that she was being ridiculous when she was being such. At the moment however she was getting all kinds of bad feelings...though she'd simply shrug it off. How bad could things be?She was going to a place with the keywords 'Ignorant Maiden's Fortune' with a creepy looking guy that laughed entirely too much. If breaking the fourth wall was possible she might have heard her author subtly groaning in pain. Unfortunately no such lucky breaks would be given...instead she'd happily..or rather awkwardly smiled at her new found 'friend' and followed after him.
She thought positively for a moment as well...She was indeed a maiden ignorant of the world she was in. If everything fell well into place her fortune would indeed be found and would turn out to be amazingly valuable in the future. That thought alone made her smile and continue on...a bit less suspicious of her situation. Though she had to admit...even with these thoughts...something felt a little off...she wasn't sure what...but something just didn't feel right at all.
"...On to adventure, ne?" She mumbled to herself once she approached the Chaos Gate with Sasaki. She'd stand behind him---while also watching what he did out of mild curiosity.
Soon after her avatar along with his disappeared from sight with a raise of several golden rings.
